Don't cry at work

During a business meeting you try to figure out a problem within the company and your co-workers are not helping with the issue. You become frustrated to the point when you begin to cry. Now what? Do you cry in front of your staff and attempt to recover from the incident over time, or do your try to pull yourself together. Women cry four times as much as men do, due to a protein named prolactin. Prolactin is present when someone cries emotional tears. The protein gets the endocrine system flowing, making people more prone to crying. Women may possess as much as 60 percent more prolactin in their bodies at any given time compared to men.

Here are a few tips to stop the tears before they stop you and your image:
  • Blow your nose. It is very difficult for tears to come out of your eyes while you are blow your nose.
  • Change the subject. Shifting to something completely different will stop the tears.
  • Smile. It is very hard to cry and smile at the same time.
  • Start coughing. Excuse yourself from the room, then pull yourself together.
  • While not moving your head, look up with your eyes. It is very difficult to cry.
  • Hold your breath. Count to 20 than slowly release your breath.
  • Pinch yourself. This will redirect your attention to a different area.
  • Give yourself time to cry somewhere else. Don’t bottle up feelings, because you are more likely to release again.
  • Fake sneeze. If you have watery eyes like what you get when you’re about to cry, just fake a sneeze.
  • Use your eyebrows. Raise your eyebrows as high as they can go so it’s easier to hold back tears.
